WWE Taboo Tuesday 2005

Man, was this ever a geeky PPV. It took me a couple weeks to watch the whole thing, but that was mainly due to being busy and doing other things. This was a pretty big card, 9 matches, which is rare for the WWE. The main event featured John Cena defending the belt against Kurt Angle, and the fan voted Shawn Michaels. Every voting outcome on this card was entirely predictable, which I remember us laughing super hard about at the time. It was a surprisingly good and exciting match, which Cena won by pinning Michaels. Still, nothing I was too excited about watching. The other main match was actually really good, as Ric Flair beat Triple H in a steel cage match. The match was a really intense blood bath – Ric Flair bled so much that his hair was completely red! I was shocked by how good this match was. I remember us laughing about the feud at the time, but the match was actually great.

The rest of the card was a complete and total joke. In the opening match fans selected Rey Mysterio and Matt Hardy to team up to meet the challenge of Raw stars Edge and Chris Masters. For no reason Edge backed out of the match at the start and Snitsky replaced him, lol! In the funniest match on the card, Eugene and Superfly Jimmy Snuka beat Rob Conway and Tyson Tomko. We loved Conway’s “Just look at me” image from this time and thought he was so cool for some reason. Superfly was selected over Hacksaw Jim Duggan and Kamala. At the end of the match all three legends came down and beat up Conway, which was so f’n hilarious! In another ridiculous match, Mankind beat Carlito, as they were feuding for some reason. The Big Show and Kane, who lost to Michaels in the main event vote, were teamed up at the last minute and beat the new team of Trevor Murdoch and Lance Cade to win the belts in a really stupid match. And in the second funniest match of the night Batista (replacing Stone Cold Steve Austin) beat the Coach, who was being assisted by Vader and Goldust (two shot wonders). I laughed so hard at Vader’s huge fat gut, and the fact that he stumbled and fell all over the ring. This PPV was ridiculous, yet fun to watch, with one really good match, and lots of funny gimmicks. Oh yeah, and the set was designed to look like a giant computer, which was fucking hilarious.
